Cheesecake Research✔

Updated: Feb 16, 2019

In college, I really did not know how to cook or bake unless it was out of a box. That all changed when I moved to Hawaii. I became obsessed with learning and finding recipes that I wanted to try to re-create and I have loved the outcomes of trying. This also created a connection with my Dad that we never had before. In my class, CEP 810, we were asked to think about what we have always wanted to learn how to do for our Networked Learning Project. For this project, I chose to learn how to make a cheesecake from scratch.

This week I began my research by looking at videos on Youtube and Pinterest by typing, “how to make a cheesecake from scratch”. On Youtube, I came across a video called, How to Make the Creamiest Cheesecake by Tasty 101. I was drawn to this video right away because of the company, Tasty, which I have made recipes from successfully before.

After awhile, I started to feel a little overwhelmed by the number of recipes that popped up, both helpful and unhelpful. Pinterest and Youtube are my go-to resources for my classroom when supplementing my lessons, so I felt comfortable using these sources to begin my research. On the other hand, help forums and Reddit are sources I am not familiar with because I haven't used them at all. I found I had a harder time trying to sift through the information on Reddit. In Tanya Menon's TED Talk, she explains, "To truly widen our social world, what we have to do is, we've got to fight our sense of choice. We've got to fight our choices" (2017). She is right, I look forward to fighting my comfortable choices and experimenting with other sources, like help forums and Reddit. You can keep checking the blog for more updates on this learning adventure!

Below you can see what my screen looked like when looking at Pinterest, Youtube and Reddit (respectively):
